Manipal University’s National Conference on Youth in Social Change, a one of its kind event aimed at sensitising the youth on giving back to society and strengthening Daan Utsav, India’s national festival of Giving, was inaugurated on the 5th of August in the TMA Pai Halls, Manipal. Dr. Anup Naha, Convener of the conference, welcomed the gathering.
Harish Hande, Managing Director of SELCO India, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the need to take the poor as partners in our mission to bring about change,. The poor, he said, fund the rich’s education, who proceed to use their skills abroad. Hande told the audience not to listen to too much advice but instead go with their gut feeling.
Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal University, delivered the presidential address. Dr Ballal explained the distinction between education and literacy. A civic responsibility is essential for one to be considered a responsible citizen, which many unfortunately lack.
Navaneeth Ganesh, student convener of the National Conference of Youth in Social Change proposed the vote of thanks.
